The GearBoxx is supported by affiliate and referral commissions. Some of the links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you click on them and make a purchase or sign up. This does not affect the price you pay or the quality of the products or services I recommend.

What I recommend, and why

I only recommend products I have personally used or have first-hand operational reasons to vouch for. The largest single source of affiliate revenue on this site is the Gusto Payroll referral program. I have run Gusto Payroll for my MSP, Xtego Creative, since 2023.

On comparison pages where I cover products I have not personally used, I say so explicitly and frame the coverage as based on documentation, public pricing pages, and user reports rather than first-hand experience. I will not invent first-person anecdotes about products I have not run.

How affiliate links work

Some affiliate links on this site (notably legacy gear-review posts in the archive) use cloaked redirect URLs of the form /go/<slug>/. Those redirects send you to the actual merchant (typically Amazon Associates). The redirect lets me update product links in one place if a product goes out of stock, and lets me track which posts drive the most clicks.

The Gusto referral link on this site is https://gusto.com/r/curtisbbf86e89. Sign-ups through that link credit me with a referral and pay you a $100 or $200 Visa gift card after your first payroll runs.

Editorial standards

• I publish weaknesses alongside strengths on every product I review. Honest tradeoffs are how readers decide; sales copy is not.
• I update pricing and feature claims when vendors change them. The site is dated and the dates are visible.
• I do not accept payment for placement, paid product reviews, or sponsored content. The only commercial relationships I have with the products I cover are the affiliate / referral programs each one runs publicly.

FTC compliance

The FTC requires "clear and conspicuous" disclosure of material connections (16 CFR Part 255). Every page on this site that contains affiliate links carries a short disclosure above the fold, in addition to the long-form policy on this page. The footer disclosure is sitewide.
